it does appear at first look to be odd.looks like a staged scene. but doctors are intelligent creatures. surley it would have been simpler to have left the patio door open and said on return to check kids found it open and maddie gone.= in fact u could have thrown in it looks like shes wandered off.lot easier,more believable...but if it happened as suggested that she died in the apartment say of a sedative problem then panic will set in..do we own up and ruin our lives or think up something quick.now ...
